A Case for Gender Roles in Ministry

At one point in her life, author and co-founder of Redeemer Presbyterian Church Kathy Keller sought pastoral ordination. Yet she came to adopt the view that men and women have different roles in marriage and ministry, and that fulfilling such roles pleases God and leads to greater personal fulfillment.

In this unapologetic but nuanced piece, Keller presents a caring and careful case for biblical gender differences and the complementarian view of women in ministry. At the same time, she encourages women to teach and lead in the church in ways that may startle some complementarians. Readers on both sides of this hot-button topic will be challenged by her ministry-tested and thoroughly Scriptural perspective.

Outstanding treatment of a difficult topic!

Anyone interested in a short, to-the-point, and Biblical book advocating for generous complementarianism, look no further! Kathy's booklet highlights the Bible's teaching in a most winsome fashion. Her presentation avoids both extremes (ditches): 1) women must necessarily be allowed to serve in pastoral ministry, and 2) women must be kept from any church ministry that involves teaching or leadership. The book is thoughtful, engaging, and on-point! Her anecdotal story of Elisabeth Elliot was so perfect. It's a short read, so if you want a more thorough treatment of the topic, I recommend Susan Foh -- but for the majority of people, this book couldn't be better.
